Know Your Council

Brockton Council is made up of Deputy Mayor Roly Anstett and David Inglis, Charles Reidl, Chris Peabody, Tim Mancell and Dan Gieruszak who are the five Councillors that fashion the future by creating policies, by-laws and resolutions for the greater good of Brockton. They deliberate the budget yearly and carefully to allot funds on a priority basis that ensures your safety, comfort, quality of life and well being. They work very diligently for you and take their position very seriously.

We meet primarily on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7 o’clock at the Council chambers. These are open public meetings and all are welcome.

All are elected at large, as we are no longer represented by the ward system. This makes for a more complete Councillor as they must do their homework on all issues within the municipality. They must canvass the entire municipality and earn the votes of the electorate, come election time. This fosters a more global vision as opposed to the parochial politician who wears his ward hat to all meetings and displays bias for his constituents, while inadvertently offending others in the municipality. With the ward system that councillor is not held accountable by those he/she offends outside of his ward. The offended have no say on the ballot in a ward system. This creates two or more distinct camps that are more often than not at cross purposes.

This Council functions noticeably well. We have healthy debates and disagreements on occassion but always move forward accepting whatever the decision. Democracy rules. Even if a vote is four to three we all accept the decision and move on as one.
